LAST CHANCE TO VISIT THESE WEBSITES

On September 23, strictly for financial reasons, I will abandon three web sites that I started during the pandemic. I have all the files backed up, and will re-establish the sites at some later date. They are:

http://m-p-l.org

(An ambitious Bible study.)

http://the-way-of-peace.com

(My first book. Summarizes what I hope to live and teach.)

http://get-on-your-feet.com

(My next book. Sets forth an approach to life that makes poverty IMPOSSIBLE.)

ENJOY!

Wolves in sheep’s clothing

I am at a difficult juncture.

My immediate material situation requires that, like never before in my life, I practice what I preach; care for myself; work in my own self-interest; be “here-now-can;” “keep the focus on me;” live by the Serenity Prayer.  These are what I counsel any poor person to do.  These are what I most emphatically now must do myself.

This entails dis-attending to all the current social turmoil.

It entails turning a deaf ear and blind eye to many messages, insistent messages, particularly coming from those who claim to have the best interests of the poor (like me) at heart.

Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell

The cosmic puzzle here involves the psi dynamics of gravitation, resonance and sympathy:  how two people with congruent deranged belief systems may be drawn toward each other, and then reinforce each other’s delusions.

Acceptance, or judgment?

Biden slammed for Christmas ‘unity’ speech after year of political attacks: ‘Spare us, you old grinch’ | Fox News

There is a segment of the population who won’t accede to any gesture of reconciliation.  Though I myself didn’t approve of Joe Biden’s divisive remarks about MAGA people in September ’22, the reactions quoted in the article, to Biden’s Christmas ’22 message, are telling.  On the one hand, most of the people quoted are actually outside the conservative mainstream.  On the other hand, they’re there, which is the subject of this post.  The quote from Kevin McCarthy’s spokesperson is particularly troubling; I will not examine whether these folks correctly say Biden said what they say he said. Naughty girls ISO the Kingdom

I have been spending lots of time at church during the week. I took to looking askance at two particular neighborhood teens who participate in a number of our programs — garden club, after-school, youth group — because they seem to manage always to be in the wrong place (an unauthorized place) at the wrong time, and Shontay in particular wears this mischievous grin, as if she’s looking for trouble.

One Sunday in mid-November, my attitude toward them changed completely.

Hate speech is normally protected.

That’s the law.

Accordingly, this speech I just heard a mother direct to her one-year old:

“Shut the fuck up.  Yo’ little punk ass always cryin’ an shit.”

First point:  Do I have a right to be offended by that?  Do I have a right to say it offends me?

Second point:  Look at the exact words used.  As with many people I meet from day to day, the words they use indicate conclusively that their lives revolve around their privates.
