x From my diary: Learning to pray

Facing various issues as to how to spend my time. The current appearance of this blog is a far cry from what I want, but I don’t want time spent redesigning it to take away from job search. The same dilemma presents in choice of whether to use my tax refund to restore my former website on Yahoo! for $125.00/year, or instead rebuild the site as part of this blog.

My church is about to launch Saturday morning prayer services in which I will have a leadership role. I will be offering teachings on prayer; I think I have about two hours’ worth of material, and an issue rises of whether to try to organize that into 10-minute or instead 15-minute segments. And there’s an issue that what I would present to the prayer team members only, isn’t necessarily what I’d present to the general public.

This morning at McDonald’s I was reflecting on these things, and on what I might teach to an audience drawn from the general public. I began to understand why Ambrose Worrall fails to refer to Kabbalah.

Prayer team members will be principally interested in learning how to pray effectively for others. People who come from the general public will be principally interested in how to pray effectively for themselves — how to get their own prayers answered.

I presume to be pretty good at the former. That’s how I became prayer ministry coordinator to start with. I’m not so good at the latter.

Replacing IDs
Friday morning at breakfast, I was picking up my things to leave, and saw this other fellow’s things. He had no backpack to speak of, and had a King James Bible sitting on top of his stuff. He meant to carry that Bible in his hand everywhere he went all day. On the one hand, this struck me as foolish. On the other hand — where’s my Bible? It wasn’t among the stash I went through on Thursday 07/28. It must be somewhere.
Overnight I would recall that I had — or had had, at one time — some additional belongings stashed in the furnace room at church.
Today I looked there, and found two backpacks. I opened one, and there was my Bible, right there; and my IDs, the originals, just as I recalled them, in a glassine bag inside a manila folder. Many other important papers. All in remarkably good shape, given the extremes of temperature and humidity they meet in that room.
I’m back in business.

Thursday, July 21, 14:15:  See previous post, linked to below.

For the moment, it’s a pretty short story.

I’m pursuing an initial offer of a position as part-time produce clerk at a major local supermarket.

I had received that initial offer by e-mail 07/09/16.

I phoned them a number of times the following week.  I phoned them again ~15:15 Friday 07/15/16.  I wound up speaking with the gentleman who signed the original e-mail.  It turns out they’d never received my response, so the background check had never been started. Thursday, July 14:  The interview a week ago today, for position of part-time produce clerk at the Harris Teeter store at Canton Crossing, went favorably. On Saturday, I received from them an e-mail initial job offer, and accepted. They wanted me to begin no later than Friday, July 15, but as of this writing it doesn’t look like that will occur. There is additional paperwork that must be done, e.g. involving my IDs, and the drug test to take care of. I’ve not heard back from them as to any of that. Per my phone calls to them Monday and Wednesday, they are waiting for my background check to come back before doing anything else. This should be no problem.
