Jimmy, part 2
Thursday 2014-07-03. Jimmy came up to me at McDonald’s yesterday and sat down and talked about the incident. He doesn’t say he’d been drinking. He says people thought he’d been drinking.
Recall his psychiatric diagnoses.
Pastor sent me this clipping about the homeless squatters’ camp underneath the Jones Falls Expressway, which the City was about to raze — again. He thought the housing vouchers it mentions might be available to me. They’re not. A different detail caught my eye: the remark that many people in the camp “struggle with mental illness and addiction.” Note the “and.”
Exceptional horoscopes
I will collect here stories of times when my horoscopes have been exceptionally accurate. This post may be updated from time to time.

Saturday 2014-07-26. There is a woman who comes into McDonald’s sometimes, who has taken a liking to me, and sometimes gives me money. Not long after I first composed “Prayer primer,” I figured I could print out a color hard copy to give her as a present; and eventually I did so. But for weeks, I never saw her.

INTERVIEWS IN AUGUST:
Secretary II – City Health Department, 08/26/14
Tuesday 08/26/14: I interviewed this morning for the position of Secretary II with the City Health Department.
My success depended on my performance overcoming my appearance. This was the fourth interview I’ve had since becoming homeless, and the first time that my appearance was an issue. As things went, by the time I left McDonald’s for the interview itself, my nerves were shot.
Jimmy
16:01 Saturday 2014-06-28. [Written in the “smoke pit” at the shelter, waiting admission.]
They escorted Jimmy out of here about half an hour ago. He’s always been a milquetoast. Now he was shouting and cursing. “Yeah, I been drinking.” Whatever happened at the desk, he’s barred out now. I owe him $2.
He’s diagnosed with bipolar II disorder and ADHD. I’ve seen him reading books about both of those diseases, but never anything about alcoholism.
Rainbows
(Originally published 2013-07-04 at Trojan Horse Productions; reblogged 2014-08-27.)
Baltimore is more likely than other places, to have weather when you can see rainbows. We are coming now into a period when this is especially so. We will probably have another such time again in September.
The key to seeing rainbows is, three things have to happen at the same time:
(1) The sun is shining
(2) while it rains, and
(3) there is blue sky somewhere.

Treasures in heaven redux
Saturday, May 17, 2014. Another deep med session this morning. Afterwards, I considered my upcoming (May 22) interview for a different secretarial position at the Water Department. I’m not as excited about it as I feel I ought to be.
Matthew 6:
19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Man, do I ever want to go out and smoke again. I smoked immediately before this writing.

The Synoptic Problem
Matthew, Mark and Luke report many of the same episodes, often in almost exactly the same language; but the sequence in which these episodes are reported differs greatly from one to another. In the late 19th century, it was conclusively determined that it is absolutely impossible to harmonize these chronologies — to establish a single sequence in which the alleged events would have occurred.
In the PDF file linked to here below, the center column lists the episodes reported in Luke 9—12, in the order Luke records them. The lefthand column lists those that also appear in Matthew, in the order Matthew records them. The righthand column lists those that also appear in Mark, in the order Mark records them.
