APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN JANUARY 2015:

  • Rite Aid — hourly positions

Most of my energy this  month has gone toward advancing my career in radio.  I produced the first six audition files and anticipate adding a new three-minute commentary each week.  Next steps:

(1) Establish podcasts at soundcloud and iTunes;

(2) Start using an online sound editor for sound-on-sound applications, such as adding background music to existing voiceovers for the public service announcements for Amazing Grace Church;

(3) Become an actual, active participant in the world of Baltimore talk radio, by calling in to the talk shows myself!

* Franklin Graham, Charlie Hebdo and the “heckler’s veto”

The  most recent terrorist threats we’ve seen have come not from Muslims overseas or Muslims in this country, but from Christians in this country.

On January 14, Duke University announced its plan to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer from the tower of its chapel every Friday.  Franklin Graham posted on Facebook, requesting that donors withhold donations to the university it reversed that decision.  A firestorm of controversy followed.

* Doubts about Brown v. Board

In the January 13, 2015 Washington Post, Valerie Strauss calls attention to an obscure Supreme Court case that she says may have a greater impact on the educational achievement of black children than any other case since the 1954 Brown v. Board decision.

She republishes a lengthy analysis of the situation by Richard Rothstein.  She often republishes Richard Rothstein’s articles.  As usual, Rothstein has assembled a mountain of data in support of his position; however, unfortunately, a mountain of data matters little if one’s premises are wrong.

o Saving keystrokes

I see that some folks have been reaching this site by searching on “homeless blogger Baltimore.”

You can do it faster.

On Bing or on Yahoo!, if you search on “the homeless blogger,” I appear on the first page of results.

On Google, the same search will currently find me on page 5. I hope to improve that.

Alternatively, you can use that nifty “subscribe by e-mail” thingy in the upper right corner of the page.

But by all means, please be sure to link here, early and often throughout the day!

* My 10 Rules for 2015

I may add comments hereafter, whether here below or at the original post.

I generally never make resolutions, as per the dramatic graphic.

Reblogged 2020-10-15.

new-year-resolutionNew Year’s Resolutions are SO easy to break that I stopped making them ages ago. Last year I simply set a goal list for the year and I accomplished 8 out of 10 items. I’m thrilled with that.

This year I set a goal list again, but I’m also setting up a list of rules for my life in 2015. I’m going to print them out and place them on a wall near where I sit to remind me when I’m struggling. I’m going to make them into a picture to put on the background of my computer. I’m going to read them every day at first and then at least once a week later on, to keep myself on track with the changes I need to make.

These rules are things I realize I need to change within my own life. My biggest struggle has been dealing with false…

* A place to begin

John 9:1-3:

1As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him.”

The disciples want to place blame. Their posture can be referred to as fault-finding, judgment and condemnation. Jesus calls attention to the opportunity to heal, to do good, to make a beginning.
