One of the ads I replied to was a patent “payment processing” scam. I copy here below the pertinent e-mails:

Dear Mr. Carson:

I recently responded to the ad in the Daily Record that appears below.

I’m forwarding you a copy of the response I received.

From my experience as a job-seeker, I can tell you that this is patently a scam.  You’ll note the reference to payment processing, the commission, and the absurdly high salary.

The next steps in this “relationship” would no doubt be for this person to FedEx me a counterfeit check, asking me to deposit the same in my own account and wire a chunk of the proceeds either back to him or to some third party.  Only later would the check be found out, and I’d be left “holding the bag” – and facing criminal charges.

I realize there’s nothing you can do about this, but you may want to beware of this advertiser in the future.

Very truly yours,

William A. Tell

You are the light of the world.

P.S., 2014-06-30:  I received a positive response from Mr. Carson.  The un-businesslike e-address had had me skeptical from the beginning also.
