As a public service, I’m publishing what I found out about certain fancy symbols.

Helpful web pages:

• Wingdings character set and equivalent Unicode characters (alanwood.net)
• Unicode/UTF-8-character table – starting from code position 1F650 (utf8-chartable.de)

On a web page, one must use UTF-8 encoding, or the symbols won’t appear.

The font used in my Word source document was Segoe UI Symbol.

You can use this chart to insert these symbols onto your web page, in any of three ways.

(1) Insert into your code an expression, “&#x—–;”, replacing the hyphens with the five-character string from the “Unicode code point” column below;

(2) Insert into your code an expression, “&#——;”, replacing the hyphens with the six-digit expression from the “Decimal” column below;

(3) Click on the glyph itself below.  This will bring you to a roughly 250×280 pixel .png image, that you can either download or link to.
